14 year old hero climbs alpine 8b+s

Adam Ondra, a 14 year old Czech who has climbed 9a, has repeated Silbergeier and Zub za Zub, both 8b+ in the Ratikon, Switzerland.Although the grade is not big news by modern sport standards, these routes are 5 and 6 pitches long, and at altitude. Silbergeier was bolted on lead by Beat Kammerlander, and is runout in places as a result. Five of Silbergeier´s six pitches are 7c+ or harder. Ondra´s ascent of Zub za Zub was its first completely free ascent; he suggested 8b+ for its crux thrid pitch.Back at sea level (ish), Ondra also found time to drop in on Gorges du Loup, near Nice, France, and deal with a 9a (Abyss) on his third go, and onsight an 8b+ – Hot Chilli Beans Volcano. Alexandre Chabot´s Abyss has only been repeated by one other person, Andreas Bindhammer, who thought it might be hard for the grade.Clearly still feeling pretty fresh after that lot, Ondra popped into Voralpsee to tick another of Beat Kammerlander´s uber classics, Speed, 8c+. Ondra´s ascent of Speed is likely to be only its 4th ascent. A previous ascent was made by notable hyperactive waif Dave Graham, recorded on the DVD Autoroute.
