Avon Gorge Access Ban – Suspension Bridge Buttress

by BMC Bristol City Council have banned access to climbers at Suspension Bridge Buttress, Avon. This is a popular and well-established local climbing venue and the Bristol scene is mobilising to tackle the situation. The BMC and the local BMC access representative have made contact with the Council, who have confirmed that: The Council had now banned climbing on the buttress. There is a contract in place to ensure the prohibitive fence is maintained. The Council intended to use security guards to patrol the site, and climbers would be asked to leave. Help regain access Local climbers are organising a petition which will be submitted to the Council when it closes on the 1st May. You can sign the petition at local climbing walls or on the Bristol City Council e-petition system: To add your support visit the Council Epetition Website ( Source: BMC )
