BBC Round 3 – Preliminary Results

The final round of the A5 British Bouldering Championships has just finished at the NEC in Birmingham. Crammed into the astoundingly popular Outdoors Show (which had somewhere in the region of 40,000 visitors over the three days!), the two specially built boulders played host once again to some nail biting and spectacular climbing. On Saturday the juniors boys, junior girls and senior women fought it out for the whole day – Twelve qualifying problems in the morning followed by 5 more in the afternoon final. Alison Martindale put in a fantastic performance, flashing every problem, but was beaten in the overall series by threee solid performances by Jo Gordon. Jemma Powell put in another typically professional appearance to win on the day and take the series overall. Alison MArtindal, a happy winner on the day Today in the senior men´s event Malcom Smith gave an awesome display of power and technique to take the round and overall series (for the fourth year in succesion!). Gaz Parry, knackered from organising the event and suffering from a cold managed a valient second place, with Miles Gibson at last living up to his potential to take a podium place in third. Malcom Smith cruising through qualifying A big thank you to Graeme Alderson of the BMC who had organised, managed and run all three competitions (as well as a million other things) over the last month, and to the route setters and volunteers who make it all possible.Full results will follow tomorrow.
