BMC versus Rockfax At Banff Mountain Festivals

by Mick Ryan Blue Mountains Climbing Last year the BMC won the best book in the Mountain Exposition category at the Banff Mountain Book Festival, Canada, with the acclaimed Burbage, Millstone and Beyond.(see UKClimbing.com news report) Out of 23 submissions in the this years Exposition category, eight are climbing guidebooks. Out of those 23 submissions seven have made it into the grand final, four of which are climbing guidebooks. They include: Blue Mountains Climbing: 2007 Edition, Simon Carter, Onsight Photography & Publishing (Australia, 2007) Deep Water by Mike Robertson, RockFax (UK, 2007) The Mont Blanc Range: Classic Snow, Ice and Mixed Climbs, Jean-Louis Laroche, Florence Lelong, Menasha Ridge Press/Baton Wicks (USA/UK, 2007) Stanage, Niall Grimes, BMC (UK, 2007) This years judges include Ed Douglas, (UK), Dougald MacDonald (U.S.), and Will Gadd (Canada). Niall Grimes, editor of the BMC guidebooks is already in Banff, for a writing course according to Alex Messenger the BMC´s editor of Summit magazine, and is well placed if the BMC are successful this year. Mike Robertson author of Deep Water is hanging Christmas decorations in the John Lewis Stores around the UK.
