Breaking News: Peak District Closed!

We have just heard that the Peak District National Park Authority has taken the decision to close huge areas of the Dark Peak (the northern part of the Peak District National Park) due to a ?critical fire risk?.We understand that access will be allowed on public rights of way only and all access to open moor land will be banned. Quite how this is going to be enforced remains to be seen.Climbing is being allowed at Curbar, Froggatt, Stanage Popular End and The Roaches. Apparently this ban will be reviewed on Thursday when rain is forecast. My personal take on this situation is that it sounds, at this stage, like a knee jerk reaction similar to the blanket bans enforced in the darkest days of Foot and Mouth. I suspect that most moor land fires are started by careless drivers tossing a cigarette out the window than climbers or runners.More on this story when we get it.
