British Stars shine in the Sun

Jemma Powell and Jamie Cassidy went to France to Compete in the Marseille Youth International at the weekend and pulled off some great performances. This was an excellent competition, extremely well run with some superb routes, set on an outside wall in an enclosed courtyard within a dedicated sports complex. Heavy rain (the first for 12 months) caused the Qualifier to be held on the bouldering wall. 21 problems were set and groups of 12 were given 20 mins to get up as many as possible. Jemmma was equal third and Jamie about half way down the field. After the second round they were both in the final, Jamie 4th equal and Jemma equal 1st having topped with 8 others.Jamie took 6th place in the final after a making a few mistakes in the extremely technical lower sections of his route. Jemma topped along with 3 others so went into a superfinal eventually finishing second after missing the last move being beaten only by an amazing Japanese climber (Yuka Kayobisha or something like that) both categories had 26 climbers and this event was being used as the selection event for the French junior team so standards were high
