Last Week´s European Orienteering Middle Distance Final saw reigning European and World Champion Thierry Gueorgiou (France) take the Gold Medal in the Men´s race just 7 seconds in front of Latvian Martin Sirmais with Valentin Novikov (Russia) a further 7 seconds down in 3rd place. The Women´s Race saw a surprise result as World Champion Simone Luder could only finish 5th after a large mistake at the very 1st control. This left it open for Minna Kauppi (Finland) to become European Champion with a 30 second victory over Marianne Andersen (Norway) with Heli Jukola (Finland) completing the medal winning trio. It was a disappointing day for Great Britain with Oli Johnson and Jenny Whitehead finishing top-Brits both in 29th place. Claire Ward in 32nd, Graham Gristwood in 35th and Jamie Stevenson in 37th also scored World Cup points.
