JK Orienteering Festival 2006

The planetFear Sprint at the 2006 JK International Festival of Orienteering The JK is Britain?s biggest orienteering event attracting up to 4,000 competitors each year over the Easter weekend. This year the event comes to Yorkshire with the individual events at Ilkley Moor, Keldy Bank, the relays at Bramham Park and the all new planetFear Sprint Race at Temple Newsham. Sprint orienteering is a relatively new discipline which aims to make the sport more exciting and spectator friendly. The planetFear Sprint Race promises to be fast and furious with short courses, a 1:5000 map and lots of twists and turns to add interest. The Sport Ident electronic punching system will be used and there will be live commentary. 30 of the UK?s Elite orienteers have been invited to compete in the Sprint on Good Friday to open the weekend alongside the public sprint race and training event. Reigning British Long, Middle and Relay Champion Oli Johnson has already confirmed he will take part along with 2005 World Cup Final Medallist Helen Winskill and possibly World Sprint Championships Medallist Heather Monro. The event is open to all, with separate courses for Men, Women and Juniors and a string course for the very young (they literally follow the string round ? but still get a map!). There will also be a 1:10000 map available with training controls on it for those who wish to practise their orienteering in preparation for the rest of the weekend?s races.
