Longstone Edge Inquiry Cancelled

by Alan James As expected, the public enquiry into the mining activities at Longstone Edge has been cancelled after the Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott declared the current ´stop´ order preventing quarrying to be void.MMC Mineral Processing, and landowners Bleaklow Industries, have planning permission to quarry fluorspar and barytes, and limestone only as a secondary product from the site, however, all the fluorspar they have mined remains on the site and this is just being used as a cover operation for shifting tonnes of limestone. The Peak District National Park Authority has vowed to continue in its fight to stop further destruction of Longstone Edge, and the BMC is fully supportive of this action. ( Source: BBC News )
