MacLeod, Emmet & Gadd – Scottish Action

Dave MacLeod and Tim Emmett have climbed what is really the last obvious gully line on Ben Nevis. The Italian Route is an existing grade III on the north face of Britain´s highest mountain, which tackles the gully, but exits before the capping overhang at the top. Dave and Tim made the first ascent of this overhang yesterday to establish the hardest route on Ben Nevis at VIII/9. The route is as yet un-named. Dave MacLeod hanging around whilst establishing the hardest route on Ben Nevis yesterday. Also of note, Will Gadd made a flying visit to Scotland last week to see what all the fuss is about. Unfortunately the only route they managed was a poor condition IV in the Northern Corries, before they retreated to Birnam Quarry for some excercise and fun! In the quarry Will and Dave (MacLeod) made the first spur-less repeats of Scott Muir´s Fast and Furious without, suggesting a grade of M11+. They also established ´Good Training for Something´ at M12-, also without heel spurs. You can read about Will´s trip and his thoughts on Scotland on his Blog.
