Nepal – Travel Warning

Following a conversation with a climber who has just been ´trapped´ in Khatmandu in Nepal for elevn days I discovered the following: A four month cease-fire between the Government and the Maoist rebels has broken down. Following a weekend of violence with Maoist attacks against army, police and government facilities across Nepal, a State of Emergency was declared on Monday, 26 November 2001. The situation could change quickly, and British nationals planning to travel to Nepal should monitor events carefully. British nationals must exercise exceptional caution when travelling in Nepal. For more information, See The Foreign Office Website. NOTE: The Foregn Office Website is an invaluable tool for those wishing to travel to parts of the world where safety may be an issue. It lists up to date information on all the countries in the world.
