Following a conversation with a climber who has just been ´trapped´ in Khatmandu in Nepal for elevn days I discovered the following: A four month cease-fire between the Government and the Maoist rebels has broken down. Following a weekend of violence with Maoist attacks against army, police and government facilities across Nepal, a State of Emergency was declared on Monday, 26 November 2001. The situation could change quickly, and British nationals planning to travel to Nepal should monitor events carefully. British nationals must exercise exceptional caution when travelling in Nepal.
