New Climbing Walls

Climbing Walls are all the rage it seems. We?ve already reported on the opening of Climbing Works Bristol in September. Well the Climbing Works team have just announced that anybody with a full membership to the wall in Sheffield will be allowed free access to the Bristol wall, and vice versa. A nice touch! Also on the cards Rob Mirfin has emailed us to tell us that work has now started on a new climbing wall for Birmingham. The building, located at 77 Cecil St, is an old steel works right by the centre of Birmingham with easy links to the motorway, train stations and buses. It´s 6000sq ft, with a 4000 sq ft basement (phase 2). The main area is over 12m high, with a mezzanine (bouldering below and cafe above) and a huge gantry crane to hang some of the walls from. The centre is going to be called Redpoint and will be opened in the Autumn, hopefully by none other than John Bachar who is planning to head over for a mini lecture tour and a bit of Gritstone action. We recently had a call from a group in London who are planning a new wall just a stone?s throw from London Bridge. And last, but not least Dave Douglas from Awesome Walls in Liverpool is opening Awesome Walls II in Stockport. The wall will feature a stand-alone bouldering facility some 200 square metres built by mastr wall builders Andy Long and Jason Pickles.
