Yorkshire gritstone devotee, Nigel Poustie, has climbed a hard new line on the Calf at Ilkley.Although clearly a bold effort, he has graded it as a boulder problem in line with the current highball style.Nigel takes up the story: “18 months ago i first cleaned off the project slab on the calf at ilkley ( mentioned on pg 408 of the yg routes guide). At first i just paid the occasional visit, and it was an effort to find any holds!But over the last month i ve been going regularly and after a lot of hard work i top roped it cleanly.I then went back and did it first go without a rope.It was a funny one to grade as it felt nails on the rope, and it took me a long time to find a sequence that works. But when i did it, it felt easy but isn´t that often the way!Anyway I am tentativly giving it font Font 8A and calling it ´pebble dash.” Nigel is sponsored by Rock Pillars and Ocun
