OMM 2007 venue announced

The OMM 2007 will be held on October 27th ? 8th in the Lowther Hills, south of Glasgow. The hills rise to over 700m, and are split with steep valleys. This will be the 40th anniversary of the event. Competitors can expect plenty of climb in the courses. Linking areas of runnable terrain and exploiting weaknesses in the terrain will be essential to success in this year?s event. Whilst the area does not lend itself to finer navigation, most courses will have a number of controls which experienced competitors will identify as potentially tricky. Al and Ifor Powell will be looking to defend their elite title from last year. The Lowther hills are an often ignored area of beauty. They were once the stomping ground of William Wallace, during his fight for Scottish independence. Blue and white face paint, swords and kilts are on the kit list for this year?s OMM.The area abounds in disused lead mines, some with shafts over 430 metres deep; it also used to produce gold and silver for the Scottish crown. Competitors are asked to carefully avoid out of bounds areas in order to preserve good relations with landowners and continue the good access to this beautiful area. The KIMM (now OMM) was held in the Lowther hills in 1993.
