Open24

The Open24 is a 24 hour adventure race from the guys over at OpenAdventure.com. This year, three races made up the OpenAdventure Endurance series, the Keswick Open5 in May, the Open12 in the Yorkshire Dales in June and the deciding Open24. The race started and finished in the grand setting of the Outward Bound school in Eskdale and took in lower and upper Eskdale, the central fells, Ennerdale, Wasdale and the less frequented Copeland Forest to the west of Ennerdale. It was an action packed non-stop 24 hours – activities included mountain biking, orienteering, fell running, gorge scrambling (and water jumping!), tandem(!) mountain biking, kayaking and swimming. The change in weather was very welcome, no rain for the whole 24 hours! The racing was very competitive. Tim Higginbottom and Chris Near (Team Inov-8) got the win in the Male pairs, Steve Birkinshaw and Heather Dawe (Team Inov-8) the mixed pairs and Alison Wright and Eleanor Sutton (Columbia Salt) won the female race. Chris and Tim´s win sealed the male Open Endurance title, Debbie Smith and Adam Haynes (Team Accelerate) took the mixed and Alison and Eleanor took the female title. Full report to follow.
