Pembrokeshire Accident Report

It seems that on the late afternoon of Sun 5th May 2002 (MayBank Hol w/end)Vicky Young (aged approx 20 yrs believed from Home counties area), a member of the Surbiton & Kingston Mountaineering Club was leading on the route ´Crystal Arete´ VS4c at Crystal Slabs, when she fell some considerable distance and sustained very serious injuries, including severe head injuries, a fractured pelvis, fractured shoulder and other soft tissue trauma. Club members and other climbers in the vicinity gave her immediate first aid and ran to alert the emergency services from the Stack Rocks 999 tel. The H.M. Coastguard attended Vicky´s rescue and she was later airlifted by SAR Rescue helicopter to Morriston Hospital, Swansea.. At present her condition remains critical in intensive care. The cause of the fall is not known at present but loose rock is suspected. It would appear Vicky was well equipped and wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Report by Carl Ryan
