Power station at Smith Rock

Rockandice.com report that a power company, Cogentrix (AKA Grizzly Power) have announced a plan to build a gas-fired power plant next door to Smith Rock in Oregon, USA. Smith Rock is one of the USA´s top rock venues and a must on any Brit climber´s road trip tick list. The facility would be the largest power plant of its type in the Northwest, spewing out a 1,500-foot plume of white smoke from its 200-foot smokestacks. That´s 700,000 tons of air pollutants each year. An online petition to preserve smog-free climbing at Smith has been set up: www.petitiononline.com/Grizzly/petition.html ( Source: Rock & Ice magazine )
