Randy Topping out Raindogs© Ian Dunn, May 2010Thirteen year old climber Randy Roby has ticked the classic power-endurance route of Raindogs (F8a) at Malham Cove, Yorkshire.Raindogs, a short and powerful limestone sport route has been considered a benchmark at F8a since it was first climbed back in 1986 by Dave Kenyon.Randy Roby climbed the route just after his thirteenth birthday, and his ascent is most likely the youngest ascent of Raindogs and perhaps the youngest ascent of an F8a by a British climber.Randy was also part of the 'Youth C' section of the British climbing team that competed in the International Youth Open at Imst, Austria over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd May.Ian Dunn, the manager of the GB leading team, reported on the event:”There were climbers from all over the world taking part with teams entered from Ecuador, Israel, Poland, Czech Republic, as well as Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy and UK. There were a host of other individuals from other countries too.Our Youth C children, those born in 1998, or 1997 climbed well, with top honours going to Randy Roby who came 6th – missing a super final by 2 points. Randy topped 8 of his 9 climbs and touched the top hold of the other route. Team GB was well represented by the Scots with Angus Davidson coming an outstanding 9th out of 54 in his first International and Nikki Addison coming 11th out of 36 in her first trip abroad. The Team members were congratulated by one of the top German Climbers on their fighting spirit and this showed in their results with Tara Hayes finishing in 14th Billy Ridal in 15th.The team were joined by William Bosi (23rd) who fought to the top of 5 of his 9 climbs and Gabriella Stewart (19th) who did very well in the younger category, and Sophie Harper (34th).” Diesen Artikel inkl.
