Scottish Winter Has Arrived

by Jack Geldard – Editor – UKC It´s official! Scottish Winter has arrived. Several teams have been out in the mountains; “Finally I can post about actual climbing rather than endless “virtual-psyche ups”…. Still having to pinch myself that it´s still October. Tuesday the 28th,I think we were the only ones doing any climbing, perhaps folk had beenput off by the road being closed.”Writes Ian Parnell about his recent winter climbing exploits (with photos) on his excellent blog: http://ianparnellphotography.blogspot.com/ Steve Ashworth has managed to pick a new-route-plum on Ben Eighe on the 29th of October, climbing with Viv Scott and commenting on his Mixed Master Blog that:”Conditions were perfect. There was snow down to the valley and asurprising amount of ice forming around the place. West facing crags hadthe most hoar on them.” With cold temperatures forecast to hold out at least until Saturday, there might be some weekend sport to be had (check the weather on the Mountain Weather Information Service)
