SCUIBL 2006 2007 League Southern Counties University Indoor Bouldering League SCUIBL is a chance for all the southern universities to get together and have some fun entering a series of bouldering competitions that together form a league. This year?s league was staged over four rounds: – 1. High Sports Redhill ? 04/11/2006 2. Brunel University Climbing Wall ? 09/12/2006 3. Bear Rock Climbing Centre at Warwick University ? 20/01/2007 4. Undercover Rock Bristol ? 17/02/2007 Each round is a separate competition, but the points awarded for each round also count towards a league to decide who the overall winner for each category is.This year has been a massive success for SCUIBL with 167 entrants from over 13 universities. This made the competition very fierce (but friendly) – with lots of strong climbers around, the title could go to anyone! The women?s category was a great contest but over all Kate Keltie (Bristol) drove through the competition with three wins to take the title. However Sophie Whyte (Birmingham) must be congratulated for her first round victory. The Men?s Category was very competitive however, three main names made the dash for the title: Mani Bayat (Surrey), Tom Purnell (Warwick) and William Jones (Warwick), and overall Mani won with his consistently high scores. There should also be a massive well done to Tom Cree for getting the only full scorecard of the league and winning round one. Each University could enter up to two teams with each team including at least one girl. The team competition was nail-biting to the finish; Surrey were leading the competition nearly all the way through with a very strong team, but Warwick won out with a stunning last round performance. The competition was a great success and already it looks like next year could be even better.A massive thank you must go to Tom Purnell for organising the whole competition. The sponsors of the competition (Red Chilli, Climb Magazine, Alpkit and planetFear), the venues and the setters also deserve a pat on the back for their contributions in helping to make this event so successful.Full results and more details can be found at SCUIBL
