The Association of Mountaineering Instructors AGM

Over 100 members of AMI (the Association of Mountaineering Instructors) converged on Glenmore Lodge last weekend for the 2009 Annual Conference. An action packed weekend saw members attending various workshops on subjects including dry tooling, avalanche assessment, coaching processes, instructional techniques for MIC trainees (Mountain Instructor Certificate) and even accounting – all part of the association's commitment to continued professional development and keeping members at the top of their game. Then, at Saturday evenings AGM, a packed lecture theatre saw Pete Stacey stand down as chairman after a very successful and productive term at the helm before Tony Halliwell was elected as his worthy replacement. Four other committee members and a treasurer were also elected to replace outgoing members and the new team is now focussed on taking AMI from strength to strength over the coming years. Finally, after all the official business was concluded, the irrepressible Tim Emmett gave the perfect antidote with an hilarious and inspiring lecture about his recent adventures. Representatives from DMM and Mountain Equipment, AMI's valued main sponsors, were on hand throughout the weekend to discuss some of the great new kit they are developing and members were also able to give feedback on kit they've been using and abusing during the season.Representatives from the BMC (British Mountaineering Council), the mountain leader training boards, the MLTA (Mountain Leader Training Association), the MCofS (Mountaineering Council of Scotland) and the BMG (British Mountain Guides Association) were also present to discuss new developments and share the discussions. The weekend wouldn't have been possible without the support of everyone at Glenmore Lodge ? a very warm welcome and great facilities ensured Scotland's National Centre felt like a home away from home and with many AMI members working at the lodge it's an excellent option for anyone looking for a course or adventure. This is a really exciting time for AMI and all the latest news can be found on the sparkly new website at www.ami.org.uk. Alternatively, look out for the association's quarterly magazine (available in various shops or can be ordered direct from the website). For more information visitAssociation of Mountaineering Instructors websiteMountain Leader Training website UKC article: Association of Mountain Instructors (AMI) AGM 2009 from Glenmore Lodge Diesen Artikel inkl.
