Following a great deal of restoration work carried out by volunteers at the Stanage Plantation in the Peak District, those co-ordinating the efforts have this week begun canvassing for opinion on whether a temporary and voluntary ban on certain boulders might be in order to allow vegetation to grow back. Source: UKClimbing Al Hinkes, the first Briton to climb all 14 8,000m peaks has been awarded his OBE. On Wednesday 22nd Feb he attended a ceremony at Buckingham Palace. Tim Emmett has made the third ascent of Happy Tyroleans (IX, 10), ground up, 2nd go last week. Good effort! Tim will also be giving an exciting sounding lecture in his home town of Taunton on March 21st. See details. Lastly this week we bring news of a trio of re-prints. Baton Wicks have announced that The Games Climbers Play, compiled by Ken Wilson, Vertical Pleasure by Mick Fowler, and Calculated Risk by the late Dougal Haston will all be re-released during March and April this year.
