World Orienteering Championships Relay

The hottest day of the week, and probably the most spectators. Today was the day for Finland and Russia, winning in the women´s and men´s classes respectively. The women were off first, and it was the Swedes who set the pace for most of the day, but on the decisive last leg, Minna Kaupi of Finland passed Karoline Hojsgaard of Sweden to take gold. Hojsgaard managed to hold off Simone Niggli of Switzerland to take the silver. In the men´s race, again it was Sweden with the early lead after the first leg. Then Russia split the field on second, with only Switzerland able to keep up, and Finland a little further behind. Valentin Novikov held the lead for gold for Russia, while Swiss man Marc Lauenstein blew the race to end up 4th behind Jani Lakanen of Finland and Mattias Karlsson of Sweden. British teams were a disappointing 11th and 14th. Results here Photo from Alternativet
