BMC Burbage Guide Wins Banff Award

The latest BMC guidebook to Burbage, Millstone and Beyond has won the prestigious Mountain Exposition prize at the Banff Mountain Book Festival. Volume editor David Simmonite and series editor Niall Grimes took to the red carpet in Banff on Thursday evening (2 November) to collect the prestigious award. The new guidebook was a change from previous BMC guides with a lot more colour, better topo´s, information and innovative insights. It is also colourful in more ways than just images, with the BMC?s Niall Grimes adding his distinctive Irish humour and sparkle, which makes it a unique as well as a definitive guide. The guide, researched and compiled by volunteers, covers the routes and bouldering on the fantastic gritstone crags that surround the city of Sheffield. At the launch of the guidebook earlier this year, editor David Simmonite described the production process as ?five years of hell?. Commenting on the award he said:?It?s great to see some recognition for the hard work that the guidebook team has put it over the years. The five years of hell has paid off.? BMC Chief Executive Dave Turnbull said: ?The award is a tribute to its authors and all the volunteers who helped to compile it. The BMC has years of experience in producing definitive guides and we?re delighted to receive this recognition as a world leader in guidebooks. Burbage, Millstone and Beyond has gone down well with climbers and we?re glad our new formula is proving to be such a hit.? The guide was selected from a field of 26 entries for the Exposition category and the other three finalists were Bhutan: A Trekker?s Guide by Bart Jordans; Colorado Ice: Vol.1, 2nd Edition by Jack Roberts; and Thailand: A Climbing Guide by Sam Lightnersee original news story here with full notimation list BMC Burbage, Millstone and Beyond available from planetFear here
