Fire Risk Closes Peak District

The BMC have alerted us to the fact that from today (May 1st), open moorland within the Peak District will be closed due to the fire index reaching a critical level. At the moment, the closure is only till the weekend, but with no rain forecast in the immediate future, the ban is very likely to be extended over the bank holiday weekend. Climbers, walkers and runners can still use public rights of way and thus climbing will still be allowed at edges that are accessed by these paths. See below for a full list. Last year saw a similar ban came into force but that wasn´t till the middle of July! With the summer not even here yet, fire risk closures may become a more common occurrence for anyone using the Peak District.
