Leah Crane in Spain – 2010UKC News, Jun 2010© Leah Crane CollectionLeah Crane is still on her European climbing tour (See this UKC Interview for more details), and has made a fast ascent of Zentrale Traverse (Font 7C+/8A) in the Sustenpass, Switzerland.Crane, one of the UK's top female boulderers, has previously climbed Font 8A and described her efforts on Zentrale Traverse:”The weather was so poor I didn't even know if there was any point in putting my boots on. It was raining on and off so all the top-outs were a no go. Instead I took to a traverse, very crimpy but surprisingly my style. I warmed up on the start and worked the middle and end moves for half an hour or so. They were hard but do-able.Having had a rest I pulled on for my first attempt from the start. The start and middle went easily but by the end my fingers were numb and my hands stopped closing quickly. I stared at my fingers to stay closed and managed to do the hard mantle at the end which I hadn't actually tried, so I guess I got lucky!”The Sustenpass boulders are a set of superb granite blocks in a beautiful alpine setting in Switzerland. You can read more about the Sustenpass Boulders and see a photo gallery in the UKC Logbooks.Zentrale Traverse is graded 8A in some topos such as the Blocheart guidebook and is graded 7C+ on some websites such as 8a.nu.Leah is sponsored byBerghaus ,La Sportiva ,Petzl andBeal .
