Malham Mystery

Malham recently made the national news. Unfortunately it wasn´t on the grounds that it is one of the UK´s best climbing venues, or even for the fact that Yorkshire recently topped the list of prettiest counties, but because an unexplained listening device was found in the parish hall. The bug was hidden in a socket on the wall in room where the parish council proceedings and the women´s institute take place… Perhaps it dates back to the June 1995 when John Dunne caused a stir at the crag with his ascent of Total Eclipse, a time when local and national climbers questioned the fact that a mouthy Northerner who didn´t live off broccoli could climb so hard. We suspect that the said doubters bugged the local establishments in an elaborate attempt to prove that anybody buying so many pies could not possibly do a one-armer! Read some more at BBC.
