Mixed MacLeod

Dave MacLeod has been justifying claims that he is the UK´s best all rounder, one day taking advantage of a good spell of winter conditions, the next ticking boulder problems. He sent us the following report: ´Just a wee bit of news for the site if you want it. On Saturday I did the second ascent of Super Size Me (Font 8b) at Dumbarton Rock. It was first climbed by Malcolm Smith last June. We were both trying it then and getting close but Malc beat me to it! I left it after that but started working on it again recently and it came together fairly quick. The problem is a big link-up of several problems going diagonally up a 40 degree face of the boulder. You do a Font 7a traverse into Pongo SS. Up this (Font 8a) into the traverse of In Bloom (Font 7c) and finish up Slap Happy (Font 7a). It?s good to have done all three of the 8b problems in Scotland (the other two being Pressure and Perfect Crime, also at Dumbarton). Been trying lots of winter things too but not much luck at the moment, failed on a big route on The Ben on Friday then spent Sunday floundering about in thigh deep snow on Skye but our line still wasn?t in condition!! arghh Dave on Pongo. Photo courtesy of John Watson Note that Si O´Connor has claimed a number of boulder problems of Font 8B and above in Scotland, but controversy has surrounded his ascents. A DVD is promised which should establish things to some degree. ———————————————————————– If you have any news worth reporting please contact Matt – matt@planetfear.com / 0114 2969114 ———————————————————————–
