MTB Orienteering UK Champs

Mountain Bike Orienteering British Champs Weekend ? Aldershot. Last weekend saw the inaugural British Champs for MTBO. The top MTB Orienteers from all over the UK descended on Aldershot for a weekend of intense racing to decide the 2006 Middle distance and Long distance champions. The middle distance race took place in Yateley Heath Woods over a complex path network. With an estimated winning time of around 60 minutes every second was going to count. Andy Conn (who had been honing his skills around the European circuit) won by a comfortable margin and Janine Hensman won the women?s Mens Open 1. Andy Conn 55.42 2. Liam Corner 57.28 3. Amber Thomas 58.39 Janine Hensman The following day saw the Long Race take on the variety of MOD terrain around Aldershot. 7 maps were used in the Mens Open and 5 in the Womens Open to produce a fantastic event. The heat made the going tough, but it didn?t stop Mark Hayman (top orienteer and fell-runner) on a flying visit from his new home in Italy, to take the win. Recently retired World Class Orienteer Heather Monro romped round to take the win in the Women?s. Having been British Champion on several occasions in foot orienteering, she now has added the bike variety to her long list of achievements. Mens Open 1. Mark Hayman 2.38.45 2. Liam Corner 2.41.05 3.
