Nordic Champs – Relay

The British Orienteering Team is currently being represented by 8 athletes at the Nordic Open Championships on the island of Bjornholm, Denmark. Today was the relay with the women´s race won by the Swedish 1st Team of Emma Engstrand, Kajsa Nilsson and Helena Jansson (yesterday´s sprint champion). Switzerland 1 and Finland 1 rounded off the podium. In the men´s race, the times were a lot closer with the the top 8 teams going out on last leg with only 2 minutes separating them. The eventual winners were Switzerland 1 (Matthias Muller, Baptiste Rollier and Matthias Merz) followed closely by Finland 2 and Sweden 1, only 2 seconds behind. The GB Teams also did well with the men finishing in 6th place. The women´s team looked strong, but mistakes on last leg for Helen Bridle brought them back in 12th place. GB Teams: Men – Graham Gristwood, Jon Duncan, Jamie Stevenson. Women – Pippa Whitehouse, Helen Winksill, Helen Bridle. Womens Results: 1st – Sweden 1 – 2:16:2412th – Great Britain 1 – 2:39:49 Mens Results: 1st – Switzerland 1 – 2:29:066th – Great Britain 1 – 2:31:54 Tomorrow is the middle distance race with all competitors back out into the forest.Follow the results from here.
