Scottish Outdoor Access Changes in Motion

The Scottish Executive has published plans in the form of “A Draft Scottish Outdoor Access Code”, and the “Draft Land Reform (Scotland) Bill – Consultation Paper” to provide greater rights to access the Scottish countryside. The Bill, currently in draft, will empower ´communities´ to register interests in land that is of importance to them, allow them access, and the right to buy the land. The Bill also contains provision to make is an offence to erect a ´Keep Out´ sign where there is a right of access. The consultation period will be open until 18th May 2001.
