Senior Home International Orienteering Competition.

Sheffield was the centre of the Orienteering in Britain this weekend, with a major international event taking place on its doorstep.The Senior Home International Competition involving England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland meant that top runners from all parts of Britain descended on Sheffield to take part. The England team was weakened slightly by some of their top runners, who live and run in Sheffield, opting out of the event as they felt they had too much ´local knowledge´. The Relay discipline took place on the Saturday on Loxley Common, and Scotland took a commanding lead over the proceedings with an overall win in the relays. England squeezed a win the men´s relay, but a disqualification for the leading England women´s team meant that they had to make do with third place.The Sunday event was a Classic race on Burbage and Hathersage Moors, located on the western flank of Sheffield. The temperatures were low on the tops and the wind made it tough to run in some places as you had to battle against its force. The orienteering was tricky with lots of rock detail and the early start meant that the area didn´t track up for the runners.Scotland continued their impressive form by winning the Classic race; rounding off the weekend with a top 4 in the W21E class and a victory for Doug Tullie in the M20E class.Overall, Scotland were dominant taking both the individual and relay victories to win the Senior Home Internationals.
