South Pole Race

A new expedition is being launched which is set to be the greatest race in history since Scott and Amundsen´s epic journey to the ends of the earth nearly 100 years ago. Launching this month, the once in a lifetime chance to race to the Geographic South Pole takes place at the end of 2008 and will make history as the next heroic achievement in Scott and Amundsen´s legacy.Taking a different approach to South Pole Race historic recreation programs such as BBC2´s Blizzard: Race to the Pole, South Pole Race 2008 will see modern day teams race across Antarctica in equally balanced conditions: all skiing with the same loads on the same route, passing through two checkpoints before reaching the South Pole.  After two weeks of intensive Polar Training in Antarctica, teams of three will set off from the edge of the Antarctica continent to ski across the largest ice cap in the world to the Geographic South Pole. Crossing awe inspiring glaciers and passing giant crevasses, competitors will face wind-chill down to -50C as they climb 9300 ft. to the Pole.  Entrants from Norway and Britain have already registered their interest, so the Norway – Britain battle to the Pole may develop once more in the new century. The race is organized by world renowned Polar Guide Matty Mcnair and polar logistics expert Tony Martin. There is an information day and optional fundraising workshop for South Pole Race on Saturday 14th October 2006. A waiting list for entries into South Pole Race will be held based on those attending that day.  More information is available at the South Pole Race website: www.thesouthpolerace.com ———————————————————————– If you have any news worth reporting please contact Matt – matt@planetfear.com / 0114 2969114 ———————————————————————–
