The Golden What?

You´ve probably heard of the Piolet D´Or – the Golden Ice Axe. It´s an award given annually to the most impressive mountaineering (or occasionally climbing) feat. Climbing Magazine have for a number of years awarded the Golden Piton to the most impressive climber of the year. Every January they canvass their readers for opinions and publish the results in March.The winner for 2005? Spanish sport climber, Mr 9a, nee Mr 8a, Dani Andrada. Just type his name into the search box on the planetFear news page and you´ll see just how often he hits the headlines.Dani was long called Mr 8a because he did so many of them! In fact he has climbed over 2,000 routes and boulders graded 8a / 8A or more! Well, times move on, Dani got stronger and better, and it would now appear that 9a is fairly straight forward for the guy.By October he had established 6 new 9a routes in the space of 10 months – three of which came in under a month during March. He repeated Biographie, 8c+, at Ceuse. All in all he put up 9 routes graded 8c+ or harder.
