The Great Climb Postponed – now on Sunday

The Great Cimb, the BBC outside broadcast that was to take place on Saturday has now been postponed to Sunday due to low cloud and heavy rain. It is now scheduled to take place on BBC2 Scotland from 1300 – 1905 BST on Sunday, 19 August. Part of the live broadcast will also be on BBC2 Network and the BBC HD channel between 1725 – 1835 BST. The climb will be streamed live at bbc.co.uk/greatclimb. The weather looks much more promising for Sunday with dry conditions forecast so it should go ahead. The programme is being billed as “A unique televised event which will showcase the skills and personalities of an elite group of climbers, as they pit themselves against the challenge of extreme climbs in the extraordinary landscape of the high Cairngorms.” The climbers involved include the likes of Dave Macleod, Ben Heason, Barry Blanchard and Ed February with MacLeod hoping to climb a brand new line in the E8-E10 range.Dave commented on his blog that his preferred ´possible´ E10 probably needed a couple of dry days to be in condition so it is unlikely that this will be the line chosen for Sunday. As a back up he has a couple of other lines in the E8 / E9 range (it´s quite scary and very impressive that a climber at the top of his game is so confident that he can climb at this level with so little preparation and surrounded by cameramen) Dave MacLeod blog>>
