By the end of the 17th and beginning of the 18th century, the Brazilian gold started to arrive in Portugal. It was the most intense phase of the exploitation of the colony, with economic and demographic growth of the region of Minas Gerais. Ouro Preto was city that best represented this phenomenon. There, in the strongest way, the race of the gold; the general hunger; the wild greed; the native, African and Brazilian slavery were lived. Ouro Preto, as well, was the place where the shouts of freedom were best heard and spread. Today, a brief walk through the city brings us, vividly, so much history. Today, new treasures are discovered. And one of them is the great amount and quality of the boulders that are just 10 minutes from the central square.

In this video, Felipe Camargo flows, freely, through one of the most beautiful and impressive roofs of Ouro Preto, making the first ascent of the hard “Libertadores”, a V14. It’s an intense sequence of small crimps, with a long dyno to a bad sloper in the end.

Thinking of a parallel with the limitation and constraint that slavery brought to bodies, it’s impossible not to see in climbing a way of physical, mental and, to those who believe, spiritual emancipation.
