French competition ace Alex Chabot has been disqualified from the French National Championships for taking off his t-shirt during the Super Final with Mickaël Fuselier. He topped the route and would have won were it not for the fatc that he removed his Tshirt on the ascent! Alex had only been allowed to compete after a legal battle resulted in his favour. Alex is basically rejecting the level of sponsorship associated with national level competition climbing in France. For those who enjoy a good beer or three you may be interested to know that after 2 years of research, walking over 600 miles of footpaths and visiting around 100 pubs The Inn Way? to the Peak District will be published in April 2007. Mark Reid?s latest guidebook will chart a six-day circular walk throughout the heart of the Peak District, covering some 84 miles and passing 53 great country pubs along the way! Starting and finishing at Hayfield, Stage One of this new walking route skirts around Kinder Scout then heads through the Woodlands Valley to Hathersage. Stage Two traces the Eastern Edges southwards high above the Derwent Valley to reach Baslow. Stage Three is gentler, with a stroll through Chatsworth Park then across the mystical landscape of Stanton Moor to Youlgrave. Stage Four heads up through the beautiful limestone valleys of the White Peak to Tideswell. Stage Five explores Eyam before heading over to Castleton. Stage Six traverses the famous Great Ridge over to Edale and then follows the packhorse route back to Hayfield. Five hours of adventure racing not enough? Twenty-four hours a bit much? Here?s the answer. The UK?s first 12-hour adventure race takes place on 23/24 June in the Yorkshire Dales. The Open12 event will feature biking and running plus all the fun bits – abseiling, caving, white water paddling – that you?d expect on longer races. The Open12 bridges a gap between the popular Open5 series of 5-hour events, and the challenging Open24 race. The event is for male, female and mixed pairs and as usual, early entries attract a discount on the entry fee. Next Open5 is the hugely popular Keswick event on 13 May and the Open24 takes place on 28/29 July, also in the Lake District.
