Ben Moon is currently at Gorges Du Tarn in Southern France on the latest Petzl Roc Trip. In preparation for the trip he spent a little time at his old stomping ground Buoux, getting in a little route training. Ben surprised himself by climbing Le Rose Et Le Vampire, F8b, on his first go, some 20 years after first climbing it. That´s what makes him one of the best red-pointers ever! The Derbyshire Wildlife Trust have just purchased the entire left bank of Water-cum-Jolly (includes places like Rubicon etc). Exactly what effect this will have on climbing there is yet to be seen and a site visit by the BMC Access reps is imminently planned.However, it is known that some very rare fauna already exist in and around the climbing areas which it?s fair to speculate the DWT will wish to protect. In the meantime the advice is ?please don?t garden, retro-bolt or equip news lines in the area as this is bound to damage or aggravate a delicate situation?. This purchase of land is among a growing trend of organisations purchasing land for the use / protection / interests of their members… the RSPB tried to buy the Eastern Moors Estate (Froggatt, Curbar etc). In the long term how will the BMC respond to this?
