The United Nations has designated next year as the International Year Of Mountains In response, the various mountaineering federarions around the world have agreed a ´Summit Charter´, adopted by the UIAA and launched in Austria on the 14th of October. The charter is to remind everyone, particularly governments and international organisations, why climbing, mountaineering and hill walking are valuable and worthwhile activities.
