Australian Ben Cossey has made an impressive ground up ascent of Careless Torque, E7 7a, at Stanage. The highball boulder problem / route has seen a lot of activity in the last year or two, but we are not aware of any in such warm conditions as we have been experiencing (temperatures in the Peak on Saturday were in the low 20´s!). Ben described conditions as ´warmish, but with a breeze´. We asked him about the ascent to find that it had taken him three visits to the boulder. On the second he got close to doing it, but didn´t have any spotters. His two companions were incapacitated, watching and videoing. On spying Ben taking big falls from the last moves a couple of fellow boulderers offered to spot. On his next fall Ben left one with a bloodied nose! All in all he got to the last move 8 times, falling without success. On his third visit he bumped into Ben Bransby who gave him some advice on the last move. Two goes later and the problem was in the bag. Ben also recently made a headpointed ascent of Simba´s Pride, E8 6c, at Burbage South.
