by Mick Ryan On November 28th we asked in a news item at UKClimbing, ” CC Gogarth Guide – Where is it?” (link) Spurred on by the publication of the well received North Wales Rock, recently published by Ground Up, a thread was started at the UKClimbing.com forums suggesting that Ground Up should take over the publication of the much-awaited and long-in-preparation, Gogarth guidebook. The last guidebook to Gogarth was published by the Climbers´ Club (website) in 1990 and reprinted in 2003. Despite pleas from many sources the Climbers´ Club have yet to offer an explanation of why there has been such a delay and when the Gogarth guide will be available to climbers in the UK. However, such is the power and egalitarian nature of the web where anyone can have their say, in particular at UKClimbing.com where every climber can voice their opinion, many questions are being asked and a positive discussion ensues as I write this, as well as lots of behind the scenes emails between the main players in the guidebook world (read the thread here). But more than that, as of today, two climbers have started online route listings of Gogarth routes asking for contributions – which quickly morphed into one site -and other resources are being published. gogarth.wetpaint.com stevethepro´s guide to Gogarth´s Upper Tier Climber´s across the UK, the majority who read UKClimbing.com, are of course waiting for an answer from the Climbers´ Club.
