Harder, Faster, Closer…

We just got news that Bristolian Mike Weeks has fallen from the last moves of one of gritstone´s most dangerous routes, Harder Faster (E9), at Black Rocks. After solidly top-roping the route, Mike committed to attempting the second ascent of the intimidating direct finish to Gaia. But not long after leaving the ground and passing the low runner a bank of mist raced in, turning conditions dangerously bad. Mike retreated from the final moves only to slip off and take the fall of all falls. Quick thinking, and even quicker running, his belayer Tim Emmett sprinted to take in the slack, stopping a life threatening ground fall. Mike has not been badly injured. We will post an update when we hear more information first hand.
