Back in December we reported that Jean Cristophe Lafaille, one of the world´s best Alpinists was to attempt to climb Makalu solo, in winter. Concern is growing on the mountain as Jean Cristophe was last heard from on his satellite phone on Thursday. He was at 7,600 metres at the time and reported that his batteries were failing. The hope is that he has decided to sit out bad weather, carried on with his summit attempt later than planned, and will arrive back in Base Camp later today. A helicopter search is to take place today, but is unlikely to be able to get above 6,000m.Source: mounteverest.net
