2005 World Champs sprint medallist Heather Monro and team-mate Graham Gristwood were today crowned champions of the first ever Elite Park Race held as part of the Jan Kjellstrom Orienteering Festival. The race was held in glorious sunshine in the grounds of Temple Newsham in front of 100s of spectators and tourists who then had a chance to try the course for themselves. Heather Monro won the Women´s Race in a time of 11.39 a clear victory from Sarah Rollins in 11.57 and Jenny Whitehead 12.05. The Men´s race saw Graham take the gold just in front of former-Australian and now GB international David Brickhill-Jones with junior Scott Fraser running well to take the Bronze. The medallists were also presented with planetFear vouchers. The race was an enjoyable start to what should be a great weekend of orienteering in Yorkshire with the athletes moving on to Ilkley Moor on Saturday and Keldy Bank (North Yorkshire) on Sunday before competing in the relays at Bramham Park near Leeds on Easter Monday.
