This year?s Lowe Alpine Mountain Marathon takes place 17/18 June and organiser Martin Stone reckons it?ll be the furthest north that any major outdoor event has taken place in Scotland. Coyly mentioned on the LAMM web site as ?4¾ Hrs Drive North of Glasgow/Edinburgh, 1¾ Hrs Drive from Inverness?, the actual location is always only revealed 2 days before the start.Nothing daunted, the entries have been flooding in and Stone expects the event to be over-subscribed as usual. ?People know that the LAMM offers an unforgettable experience and it draws people back year after year? he says. ?This year we?re in a superb location with a beautiful midway camp, so it?ll certainly live up to expectations.? Mark Hartell and Mark Seddon part way through a previous LAMM event. Started in 1994 the LAMM takes place in the Scottish Highlands. It is a two-day mountain orienteering competition with an overnight camp at a remote location. Teams run in pairs and carry lightweight camping equipment, clothes and food to sustain themselves for 36 hours. There are six courses ranging from Elite to Novice depending on ability and fitness, the aim is to visit course checkpoints and the times for both days are aggregated to find a winner.
