But with declining magazine readership, concerns about resources and with over 14 million (60%) households in Great Britain having internet access, that has just changed. Climber magazine, owned by Warners Group Publications (website) and edited by Bernard Newman have just taken the plunge with their first proper website. Whilst the print version of Climber, like its rival Climb (owned by the Greenshires group – website) only has a handful of contributors, Climber has taken an initial plunge into Web 2.0 (What is Web 2.0? Find out here) and more participation announcing that:“Climber is dedicated to providing the most topical and detailed coverage of the whole climbing scene, and is written by climbers, for climbers. We want YOU to get involved, share your photos and climbing tales – what you´re up to and where you´re climbing.“ Gravity magazine (website), Friction (website) and Climb (website) all have websites but have yet to fully embrace the rough and tumble world of interactive media where participation is the key, where the users call the shots rather than the publisher. The BMC´s Summit magazine (which may be possibly changing to recycled paper) is tied to the BMC´s website which is undergoing an overall and revamp, and will be live soon.
