Outside take over Nevisport Hathersage

by Mick Ryan With all the current uncertainty surrounding the Sports Direct acquisition of Nevisport last Thursday which we reported on yesterday, at least one Nevisport shop wasn´t included in the deal. The Hathersage Nevisport branch (trading on the old Hathersage Inn site) in the Peak District has been taken over by Outside. Fran Beardon, managing director of Outside told us, “We?ve kept all the Nevisport staff, regardless of their length of service and there will be no redundancies. This new branch will be run by the same head office team that currently runs the existing two Outside Limited branches and website, with Tim Russon overseeing its? day-to-day merchandise management, James Lawton running the IT strategy and Andy Hutchinson the warehousing and distribution. It is due to open mid October branded ?The Square?. Dick Turnbull, the founder of Outside, and Fran´s plan is to re-establish the focus of ?Outside? in Hathersage on climbing, mountaineering and hill walking and to move more lifestyle and casual brands to the new store which will include a large North Face ?store-in-store? Outside now has four stores, two in Hathersage, its Calver store, and a virtual store online at www.outside.co.uk and they employ over 45 full-time and part-time staff, all climbers and outdoor enthusiasts.
