by Mick Ryan Raindogs (first ascent) This last week Alison Martindale and Lucy Ellis both reached the anchors of the classic sport route, Raindogs at Malham Cove (North Yorkshire), first climbed by Dave Kenyon in 1986. Previous UK female ascents include Katherine Schirrmacher, Karin Magog, Dalvinder Sodhi and the late Rachel Farmer Raindogs is described by John Cooke at the Rockfax route database (link):“This should be at the top of every aspiring 8a climbers wishlist. A classic power endurance route with no desperately hard stopper moves, it just keeps coming at you! Quickly clip that power sapping last draw and power on up to the belay. Definitive 8a.“ Martindale had previously redpointed The Bulge an 8a at Kilnsey (North Yorkshire), and last week Ellis redpointed Just Revenge, a 7c+ at Anstey´s Cove in Devon.
