At the Outdoor Writer?s Guild annual dinner held in Kings Lynn in early November, Peak Gritstone East (Chris Craggs and Alan James) won the Award for Excellence in the Guide Book of the year category. Since the inception of the award over ten years ago this is the first time it has been won by a rock climbing guide. Chris was away climbing in France so couldn?t receive the award in person but both he and Alan were extremely pleases with the recognition and felt some satisfaction at receiving it for a book that had initially ruffled some feathers in the climbing establishment. Work is well advanced on their second collaborative volume – Western Grit; covering the Staffordshire area, Kinder, Bleaklow and the Chew Valley as well as a selection of climbs from Lancashire, again using the same format. The new volume should be out before Easter.
