Safety Warning

by Martin Crocker Knight´s Climb Until further notice climbers are asked not to attempt Knight´s Climb at Cheddar Gorge which has been affected by rockfall.Cheddar Caves and Gorge has removed an unstable rock formation from the top of Acid Rock which has affected the underlying climbs and rock-catch fence. The rockfall, weighing an estimated 15 tons, fell onto pitch two of Knight´s Climb where it shattered into large pieces before causing serious damage to the rock-catch fence 100 metres below the cliff-top.In addition, since there is much debris, including disturbed rock on the cliff face and nearby terraces at the moment, climbers need to take great care when approaching and climbing on the Main Face of Acid Rock and Freaky Wall (left) in particular. They should not scramble around on the slope beneath the Main Face, where there is much loose rock. The action undertaken by Cheddar Caves and Gorge was essential rock-safety work. If any further information is required, contact the Cheddar Caves and Gorge office (01934 742343). ( Source: BMC )
